Unshu mandarins from Mikkabi, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture are called Mikkabi mandarins. Shizuoka Prefecture is known for its high levels of sunlight, low rainfall, and well-drained, fertile soil, making it a land where mandarin orange cultivation thrives. Mikkabi, in particular, is a hilly area on the southern slope with a warm climate, making it an ideal place for mandarin orange cultivation.
The mandarins grown in this fertile environment have a perfect balance of rich sweetness and moderate acidity, and are characterized by a fresh taste that fills the mouth.
The variety used for storage in Mikkabi is the Aoshima Unshu, the main variety of Mikkabi mandarin oranges.
